SF's Tenderloin Walks: International Walk to School Day 2010 in the TL
Pedestrian Safety, Nutrition & Wellness
International
Walk to School Day is an international event that focuses on child pedestrian
safety and safe neighborhoods! On Wednesday October 6, 2010, the Tenderloin
Neighborhood Association will be spearheading this event for the TL.
The
Tenderloin Neighborhood Association in partnership with the Tenderloin Branch
of the YMCA, the TenderloinCommunitySchool, the Tenderloin Police
Station and the ChinatownCommunityDevelopmentCenter’s 201 Turk Street building will be setting
up “Wellness Stations” throughout the neighborhood to celebrate and bring
attention to pedestrian safety issues that children, and other pedestrians,
face each day in our neighborhood. The Association will be taking the event one
step further and focusing on health, wellness and nutrition.
We
will be setting up ‘Wellness Stations’ throughout the neighborhood. Each
‘Wellness Station’ will be equipped with health snacks, water, a
Tenderloin-tailored pedestrian safety booklet, a “wellness expert” and
disposable cameras.
The
“wellness expert” will be there to talk to the kids about the importance of
being active and staying alert! The disposable cameras will be available for
kids and parents to take and document pedestrian safety hazards throughout the
neighborhood, which will later be presented to the Board of Supervisors’ Public
Safety Committee.
The
Tenderloin Neighborhood Association is organizing the event and supplying each
partner with the listed items at each station.
